Off-Grid, Modular, Renegade User Testing Platform

At Matter, we reimagined Metrolinx ticket kiosks. I visualized concepts in AR to evaluate scale and built a modular platform for testing interactions on full-scale mockups with real users.

Testing required running off-grid without internet, power, or cell service on actual underground train platforms. I built a modular, battery-powered system that acted as a captive portal, allowing an iPad to trigger lights, read sensors, and step through scripted flows. The platform utilized off-the-shelf components, adapted to multiple hardware configurations, and was later repurposed to prototype lighting for a surgical robotic arm.
